Tragedy in Blisworth Tunnel

Recently I was inspired by a canal themed jigsaw to research a well-known story about an accident in Blisworth Tunnel. This tragic tale took place in September 1861, just ten months after the introduction of steamboats on the Grand Junction Canal.
Sometimes narrowboaters say that when they go through Blisworth Tunnel they can hear ghosts, and the sounds of choking. Here is the true story behind that claim. Stick around to the end to find out how these awful events in history have impacted safety on our canals today.
In memory of William Webb and Edward Broadbent. Rest in peace.
